New! Ukiyo-e Exhibition

Genius painters of the late Edo and Meiji periods

From the late Edo period to the Meiji era, ukiyo-e prints increasingly took on the role of a mass medium, depicting and quickly conveying the turbulent social changes brought about by the Meiji Restoration. At the same time, portraits of Kabuki stars and narrative prints based on popular novels became popular forms of entertainment, enjoyed by the masses.

This exhibition focuses on this "medium" aspect of ukiyo-e, showcasing masterpieces by leading ukiyo-e artists of the late Edo and Meiji periods, including Utagawa Kuniyoshi, Tsukioka Yoshitoshi, Ochiai Yoshiiku, and Kawanabe Kyōsai. Come and see the diverse works of these artists who keenly sensed the changes of the times and created innovative and fresh expressions.

Furthermore, the venue will feature immersive digital content, including interactive exhibits. Enjoy a new viewing experience that allows you to fully immerse yourself in the world of ukiyo-e.
